Asthma is a chronic breathing problem that is caused due to the disorders in the lungs in airways. Since asthma is a common disease that has been troubling people for decades, it is important to raise awareness about the same, so as to minimize its effects. For this, Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO) initiated the concept of World Asthma Day in 1998. This year on 01 May 2022 we are marking the 20th annual World Asthma Day with the theme, “Never too early, never too late. It’s always the right time to address airways disease”.
Asthma is the most common chronic condition which is known to complicate a pregnancy. However, just because you are an asthmatic doesn’t mean that you can’t get pregnant. It’s just, you have to take care of few things.
Breathe fresh air: Since your fetus depends wholly on the air you breathe, it necessitates the need to breathe fresh. Make sure that you intake fresh air either through you green surroundings or by using air purifiers and masks.
Take adequate medications: Consult your doctor to guide you for the proper medications so as to control your asthma without harming your baby.
Consume a healthy diet: A healthy diet can improve your symptoms up to a great extent. Diet including anti-asthma meal like certain fishes, salmon etc. can even reduce the baby’s risk of various allergies.
Prepare an asthma plan: Consult your doctor and recognize the triggers of your asthma. You should make a list of those in order to find solutions to them.
Though asthma complicates a pregnancy case, it is also a fact that one-third of the pregnant women see improvement in their symptoms of asthma. So, now you must be knowing that asthma is never a reason for you to not to get pregnant. Just take care of the above mentioned steps and bring the joy of motherhood to your life.
